India is, above all else, intense. No wonder they have so many aesthetes of every imaginable stripe there -- you need to be able to retreat into some sort of personal, mental haven to avoid being overwhelmed by the noise, by the smoke by the smell, by the People.

Following are some of the visual images we obtained on our brief (3-week) visit in the early 90s.
